KNIGHTS DOWN CRANBERRY
RUSSELL — The Eisenhower wrestling team improved its dual meet record to 5-4 on the season with an impressive 45-30 win over Cranberry.
The Knights received a first-period pin by Ramsey Williams at the .49 second mark to knot the score at 6-6. After Eisenhower received forfeits at 121 and 127 pounds, Cranberry earned pins in the next three weight classes to take a 24-18 lead going into the 152-pound match. There, Eisenhower’s Wyatt Neal found himself down 6-5 after the first period, but came back and won an impressive 18-9 decision over Aaden Hubbard to cut the lead to 24-22.
Eisenhower received a forfeit at 160 pounds and at 172 pounds things got interesting.
During the match between Eisenhower’s Collin Havers and Cranberry’s Matthew Antrilli, the lights in the Eisenhower gym went out in the second period and, after a 10-minute delay, the match was restarted with limited lighting and Havers leading 6-0. He would go in to win via technical fall to put the score at 30-28.
At 189 pounds, Eisenhower senior Bryceton Wilkins recorded a first-period pin to give the Knights the lead. Bryce Spinks earned a third-period pin at 215 pounds. and Eisenhower earned a forfeit at 285 pounds
“The guys wrestled lights out,” Eisenhower head coach Jared Lindell said with a smile, ” Ramsey Williams’ pin was huge for his first varsity win. I thought Wyatt Neal survived the first period and came back to win in dominant style. Havers is hurting, but he gutted out a win and Wilkins, at 189, just keeps impressing us. We have quite a few guys signed up and these young guys stepped up and wrestled well tonight.”
The Knights will travel to Falconer this weekend for the Patrick Morales Memorial Tournament.
