Dragons bow at Oil City

OIL CITY — The Warren High boys basketball team was on the road Tuesday as they traveled to Oil City to take on the Oilers.

As expected, the physical game featured numerous lead changes, and 14 3-pointers. It was Oil City’s Nevin Stinson who was the game changer, dropping 28 points en route to the 77-62 victory over the Dragons.

Warren got off to a piping-hot start, scoring 28 points in the first quarter. With the Dragons up 16, they cooled off in the second as Oil City outscored them 23-15.

Still leading by four points to begin the second half, the Dragons’ offensive struggles continued after the break.

“We turned the ball over too much to win on the road versus a good team,” Warren head coach Jeff Berdine said. “We had costly turnovers which was the result of a good defensive effort by Oil City. We have to have better decision making on our part, and have to put the ball in the hoop more efficiently when given the opportunity.”

Logan Crissey was the leading scorer for Warren with 20 points, Lucas Thrift added 18 and Allen Eaton chipped in 10.

Along with Stinson’s 28 points, Michael Fink added 15 points, and Steven Heise chipped in 11 for the Oilers.

In junior varsity play, the Oilers defeated the Dragons 47-37. Bradey Chase had 11 points for Warren, with Jaxon Thrift adding 9 and Bryce Grolemund 5.

The Dragons look to bounce back on Friday when they host the Conneaut Eagles. Junior varsity tips off at 6 p.m. with varsity to follow at 7:15 p.m.

Starting at $3.50/week.
