Warren soccer programs receive honors
The hard work paid off for the Warren boys and girls soccer teams as numerous players from both programs were named district and region all-stars.
Quinn Norris and Jack Chapman were named to the Erie Times-News All-District 10 Big School Team. The senior duo had a huge impact on the program this season which included crisp passes and leadership from Norris, and a strong offensive campaign from Chapman.
“Quinn has been such an important part of our program from the moment he stepped on the field as a freshman,” Warren boys head coach Steffen Blair commented. “He’s put in so much time to grow his game, and it’s been really fun seeing him develop into one of the most skilled players we’ve had come through here. He earned this.
“Jack had a fantastic season. We’ve come to expect this from him, but we certainly don’t take it for granted. He’s been one of our most dependable scorers for a long time, and we’ve leaned on him heavily. That’s how much trust we have in him. He always showed up and delivered.”
Making the first team region squad were Norris and Chapman, along with senior captain Luc Wilkins. The second team was paced by junior Kyle Jones and senior goalkeeper Adon Maier. “This was such a selfless group, and leading them was a privilege. These guys pushed each other and brought out the best in one another all season. It’s great to see them recognized, but honestly, we had a lot of players who contributed in big ways and are just as deserving. I’m so proud of these boys and how they approached this season, ” Blair added.
Meea Irwin was honored as co-region player of the year with Bradford’s Alyssa Mangold. Irwin, along with sister Leyna, were also named to the Erie Times-News All-District 10 Big School Team, and made the first region all-star lineup.
“Meea and Leyna are obviously incredibly talented players, but what really separates them apart is their work ethic,” Blair said. “They’re two of the hardest-working athletes I’ve ever worked with, and that’s the foundation of everything they’ve accomplished. Meea’s career honestly speaks for itself. Her talent would stand out anywhere. She has such a high standard for herself, and she’s constantly finding ways to raise her level. That’s what makes her truly special.
“Leyna impacted games in every possible way. She took on huge responsibilities at every level of the field and handled them with a composure and consistency that lifted the entire team. Her presence makes everyone around her better, and what she brings as a leader can’t be overstated.”
Meea is continuing her soccer career at Point Park University, while Leyna will play at Edinboro University.
Also earning first team region all-star honors were Lani Wenzel, Lilly Stanley, Violet Brooker, Traci Abplanalp and goalkeeper Bella Campbell. The second team all-stars were Ava Wymer, Kaylee Cyphert, and Joanna Bennett.
“This was an incredibly talented group, and the number of players who earned All-Region and All-District honors shows the respect they earned from coaches across the region,” Blair said. “It was inspiring to watch them fight for each other and grow as a team throughout the season.”
