The Warren boys wrestling team hosted Titusville on Wednesday and was defeated 50-22 by the visiting Rockets.

Tyson Harkins of Warren started out the match at 285 pounds and was pinned by Bryce Watkins in the second period. A series of forfeits — Nicholas Freehling and Dru Abbey of Warren were the winners at 107 and 114 pounds respectively — put the Dragons up 12-6.

Freshman Tanner Stuart had a strong performance in his varsity debut, but fell to Sawyer Wolfkiel 121 pounds. Stuart was able to escape late in the second period to cut the deficit to 3-2, but a reversal by Wolfkiel increased the lead 5-2. The match would go the distance, and Wolfkiel held on for the victory.

At 127 pounds, Ayden Dean of Warren was defeated by Isaac Roberts by a technical fall, and the Dragons’ Cam Hagg was pinned by Andrew Donaldson at 133 pounds.

Hayden Holden of Warren was the lone victor in a non-forfeited match for the Dragons as he defeated Logan Riddle at 139 pounds. Holden scored a nice takedown 90 seconds into the first period, and would end up winning 12-3 to cut the Dragon deficit 20-16.

The Dragons’ Tucker Sanford was pinned by Parker Miller at 145 pounds, and teammate Ryan Letko was pinned by Coleman Huck at 152 pounds. Warrren’s Carter Campbell earned a forfeit at 160 pounds a 160-pound forfeit.

With the Dragons trailing 32-22, these would be the final points they put on the board as the evening concluded with a series of pins from Titusville. Warren’s 172-pounder, Sebastian Oyola, was pinned by Brock Middleton; Jacob Ferinowas pinned by Coy Campbell at 189 pounds; and Joby Hilyer was pinned by Teegan Perrin at 215 pounds.

“It is early in the season, and I am proud of the kids,” Dragon head coach Koltyn Eason said. “With the way they work, I expect us to look better and better. It was a good gauge of what we need to work on for the season.”

The Dragons return to the mat next Tuesday when they host the Franklin Knights for a 7 p.m. start at Warren Area High School.
