Warren boys post convincing win over Bison
WATERFORD — The Warren boys basketball team is back in the win column after a convincing 53-38 Region 5 victory over Fort LeBoeuf on Tuesday.
Down 12-9 after the first quarter, the Dragons made some nice defensive adjustments, settled in, and were able to outscore the Bison in all of the remaining quarters.
“Going on the road and getting a region win is important to start the season,” Warren head coach Jeff Berdine said. “We lost to them early last year, and we’re chasing that game right until the very end. We weren’t crisp pretty much all night on offense. I thought our defense was much better in the second and third quarters, and we held them to one shot each possession.”
Leading the Dragons in scoring were Logan Crissey with 22 points, followed by Lucas Thrift with 15, Landon Wood with 6 and Jacob McMeans with 4. Allen Eaton chipped in a 3-pointer and Tage Wyman had a bucket.
“I think what got us the win today was our grit,” said Crissey, a senior. “We didn’t have the greatest shooting night, but we made our way to the basket and played hard. Our defense came together in the third quarter to help with our run. I think we need to sharpen up our offense and continue to play defense as a team in order to stack up the wins.”
In junior varsity action, the Dragons were defeated in a back-and-forth 63-61 loss to the Bison. For Warren, Jaxon Thrift had a big game with 26 points, Max Spiegel had 15 and Landon Wood added 9.
The Dragons look to keep the momentum going this Friday for their home opener against Seneca. Tip off is 6 p.m. for junior varsity, followed by varsity at 7:15 p.m.
