If you are looking for something fun to do this winter you may want to check out some Eisenhower Lady Knights basketball.

Watching this team’s improvement the last few years has been a direct result of the work they have put in, according to head coach DJ Steinberg.

“These girls work so well together,” Steinberg added. “They are always looking to improve as individuals and as a team.”

With the addition of five players from Youngsville, some might think that the potential is there to upset the chemistry on an established team like Eisenhower, but for Steinberg it has been nothing but the opposite.

“There has been no transition period at all,” Steinberg said about the Youngsville addition. “They came in immediately and started working like they had been here the whole time. There was never any us versus them sentiment. It was always just a team of girls showing up, having fun and working hard on a game they love. The team bond is really something special with this group.”

This group of girls has the potential to do some special things this season. They have Clara Steinberg who is chasing the Warren County career scoring record of Elisha Jones (an Eisenhower graduate) of 1,822 points. Steinberg is currently at 1,358 points.

The Knights have the chance to make a lot of history this year, besides Steinberg, they also have senior Lainey Font who is looking to join the 1,000 point club herself, she needs 179 points.

While having two 1,000 point scorers on one team is impressive, the Knights have the opportunity to make it three. Senior Riley Robinault, who joined the Eisenhower program from Youngsville, needs 287 points to join the 1,000 point club.

With so many players capable of scoring points, one would think that could create some problems for DJ Steinberg.

“I really don’t think it will be difficult at all,” Steinberg said about the wealth of scorers. “Clara and Lainey have been playing together since the third grade, they just know where each other are on the court at all times. Adding Riley to this team will only make us better. Her athleticism, strength and rebounding ability will only compliment the team dynamic.”

The Knights have an experienced team returning with Steinberg and Font, they also return Laney Belcher who creates havoc as a defender and is more than capable of scoring herself. Samantha Child returns and adds height and athleticism under the basket.

Then adding a player like Robinault who Steinberg says, ” is incredible at creating turnovers and scoring off of them, just adds so much to this team.”

Steinberg has been impressed with how well his team has meshed together and some younger players have caught his eye.

“Camdyn Black and Haley Kent have been impressive,” Steinberg stated. “They will be players to watch in the future and will push for court time this year.”

The Knights begin their season tonight at home against West Middlesex.

Starting at $3.50/week.
