‘Team player’ Jakubczak named Region III Player of the Year

Eisenhower head football coach Jim Penley calls Caleb Jakubczak “the consumate team player,” and for that and his exploits on the field, he has been named the 2025 District 10 Region III Player of the Year.

The 6-foot-3, 195-pound senior excelled at quarterback, strong safety and punter, and led the Knights in rushing, passing and punting, setting several records in the process.

“He has come so far from his freshman year, just a tireless worker,” Eisenhower head coach Jim Penley said. “He was the player everyone looked up to to make a big play when we needed it. We are going to miss him tremendously next year.”

The numbers tell the story as Jakubczak averaged 8.5 yards per carry, gained 1,158 yards on 137 carries and scored13 touchdowns. Through the air he completed 47 of 104 passes for 704 yards and five touchdowns. He was intercepted five times.

On defense, the strong safety led the Knights with six interceptions (his 15 career picks are a school record); and was credited with 36 solo tackles, 36 assists and four tackles for loss. On special teams, he averaged 37.8 yards on 22 punts, seven of which were inside the 20-yard line.

Penley said that Jakubczak “never worried about his stats.”

“He never talked about (them),” Penley said. “He would do anything he could to help put the team in the best position to win a game.”

Added Jakubczak: “I want to thank my teammates for always having my back through everything. … I have to give a lot of the credit for my success to coach Penley. He has provided the opportunities to excel on the field and mentor me as a young man.”

Jakubczak was also quick to thank his parents, Wendy and Ryan.

“I owe my Mom so much for supporting me in everything and helping me to be the person I am today and to my Dad for always reminding me to stay focused on my goals.”

While Jakubczak is high on recruiters’ list, he has his eye on the University of Akron.

“They have been in contact with me for a long while,” he said. “I would love to play college football and they are interested in me as a quarterback and punter.”

While the recruiting has just begun for Jakubczak, he has his priorities in order.

“I want to thank the Lord for giving me the skills to play the great sport of football,” he said.

While Jakubczak is the headliner — he was a Region III First-Team All-Star at quarterback and punter and a Second-Team selection at free safety — seven of his teammates received First-Team honors while one was a Second-Team selection.

Named to the First Team were senior tight end/defensive end Gavin Lindmuth; junior all-purpose back/strong safety Joe Gigliotti; senior offensive tackle Grayson Linkerhof; junior fullback/linebacker Nolan Gesing; senior running back Logan Penley; senior kicker Bryceton Wilkins; and junior cornerback Oliver Boozer. Sophomore guard Jacob Stuart was named to the Second-Team defense.
