Junior high wrestling

NEW CASTLE — The Eisenhower junior high Knights made the long journey down to Laurel High School for the Spartan Duals.

The Knights were one of eight teams at the event. The teams were split into two pools with the Knights being placed into Pool A with South Side, Sharpsville and host Laurel.

The Knights finished up pool competition and found themselves wrestling Mohawk in their fourth dual of the day and Freedom for their fifth dual.

The Knights featured many standout individual performances with each wrestler winning at least three matches throughout the day.

Johnathan Sullivan finished the day unbeaten; Owen Ash and Hunter Vanderhoof finished the day with just one loss; Brantley Coleson, Ronnie Shellhouse, Braydan Taylor and Leeland Brown all finished their days with three wins each.

“All in all, I was pleased with the kids’ efforts,” said coach Tim Suydan, “They all fought their butts off. We were missing a few of our regulars for various reasons, but these guys didn’t complain. They stepped up and competed hard. I was especially happy for Leeland. He won his first ever contested match and his teammates couldn’t have been happier for him.”

The junior high Knights will be back in action today for a home dual against Conneaut before hitting the road for a dual against Titusville on Thursday and the Bison Brawl tournament in Waterford on Saturday.

Starting at $3.50/week.
