The Warren boys wrestling team picked up their first win of the season Tuesday evening as they defeated the visiting Franklin Knights 52-21.

Warren’s Nicholas Freehling kicked off the night at 107 pounds, getting pinned by Seth Hollerman. A series of forfeits at 114 (Dru Abbey), 121 (Tanner Stuart), and 127 (Ayden Dean) put Warren up 18-6.

The 133-pound match featuring Garrett Copley (W) and Austin Hart (F) was exciting from start to finish. Copley almost ended the match early on with a near-pin, but Hart took the first period lead 4-2.

A series of nice moves allowed Copley to score nine points in a row, ending the second period up 11-4. The 3rd period was all Copley as he held off a couple late-period shoots from Hart, to notch the exciting victory.

Hayden Holden (W) won by forfeit at 139, and freshman Tucker Sanford (W) took care of his opponent, Brian Hart (F), with a late second period pin with just 15.6 remaining in the at 145 pounds. The quickest match of the night featured 152-pounder Ryan Letko (W) as he pinned Avery Thomas (F) just 25 seconds into the match.

Wrestling up a weight class at 172, Carter Campbell (W) fell to Ethan Hart (F) by tech-fall. The score for this match was not indicative of the score as Campbell held his own and wrestled hard.

189-pounder Sebastian Oyola (W) got a third period pin over Corbin Clark (F), Jacob Ferino (W)

Won by forfeit at 215, and Tyson Harkins (W) lost by tech-fall to Kaden Kiselka (F).

Dragon senior Sebastian Oyola commented on the team’s first victory of the season, “This feels great to win as a team. We had lots of guys getting pins, working hard, and taking care of business. We will carry this win into next week, push each other at practice, and try our best to keep it going. It is a long season, and we just need to put one foot in front of the other.”

Warren returns to the mat on Friday and Saturday when they travel to Jamestown Community College to compete in the STWOA Holiday Classic.

Starting at $3.50/week.
