Dragons fall to Fort LeBoeuf after 3 strong quarters

WATERFORD — The Warren girls basketball team was on the road Monday as the Dragons traveled to Fort LeBoeuf to take on the Bison.

It was a back-and-forth game all evening as the Dragons were leading 26-21 at halftime, led by strong offensive efforts from Emma Roell and Peyton Wotorson.

Unfortunately for the Dragons, the Bison would outscore them 25-8 in the second half, including a stout fourth-quarter defensive effort, to win 46-34 in nonregion play.

“We played well for three quarters,” Warren head coach Jenny Phillips said. “We are getting better each game, but still need to make sure we are solid the entire game. We cannot let teams go on a run and then not be able to counter. Fort LeBoeuf played a heck of a fourth quarter and we just couldn’t answer.”

Dragons scoring was led by Roell with 16 points and Wotorson with 12.

The Bison had three players in double digits in Maddie Wehler with 12, Amelia Rossi with 11 and Maggie Lemock with 10.

“Emma Roell and Peyton Wotorson led well on the offensive and defensive ends, respectively,” Phillips said. “We just need to make sure all five on the floor are playing together, and speaking the same language.”

In junior varsity play, the Dragons were defeated 52-21 with Layna Hokel and Joanna Bennett each having 6 points.

Warren returns to the court Thursday when it hosts the Fairview Tigers for a 6 p.m. junior varsity start, followed by varsity at 7:15 p.m at Warren Area High School.

Starting at $3.50/week.
