Cyphert, Nelson, Flores take 1st for county girls
The Warren County girls junior varsity wrestling team competed in its first event of the season over the weekend.
The annual junior varsity boys tournament hosted by Eisenhower added a girls division this year, and the Warren County girls had an impressive display on the mat.
The Dragons had multiple first-place winners in Kaylee Cyphert, Nakita Nelson and Madisyn Flores.
Emily Wiles fought hard and earned herself a runnerup finish in her respective class. Also making the podium in third place were Alliesun Woodin and Loupeeta Shirley.
Karolina Martinelli, Leah Morrison, Hannah Cobb and Makayla Nobles competed well and earned a lot of valuable mat time and experience.
“I am proud of our ladies for having the courage it takes to step out on the mat for all to see,” Warren girls head coach Glenn Baldensperger said. “Win or lose, we get better every day technically, physically and mentally.”
Over the weekend, McKenzie Hodak competed in the junior Ironman in Massillon, Ohio. Wrestling for Pennsylvania West Black, she gained some valuable experience in her wins and losses.
The girls return to the mat next weekend when they compete at the RedBank Valley Tournament.
