After slow start, Eisenhower tops Girard
GIRARD — The Eisenhower Knights went on the road to Girard on Thursday evening, and after a slow start, defeated the Yellow Jackets 40-29 in Region 3 girls basketball.
Eisenhower found itself down 8-2 at the end of the first quarter with senior Riley Robinault scoring the only points.
The Knights defense held Girard to only 4 points in the second quarter and senior Clara Steinberg scored 10 points while fellow senior Laney Belcher added 3 points to give Eisenhower a 14-12 lead at the half.
The third quarter saw the Knights maintain their two-point lead as senior Lainey Font paced Eisenhower with 9 points.
With Eisenhower leading 26-24 to start the fourth quarter, the Knights saw their seniors take over as Belcher, Steinberg and Font scored 14 points, and Eisenhower’s defense held the Yellow Jackets to just 5 points for an 11-point win.
Eisenhower evened its record at 1-1 on the season and will be home Monday when Seneca travels to Russell for another Region 3 game.
