Saturday was the season finale for 2024 Warren Area High School graduate and current Alfred University sophomore running back Tommy Nyquist.
Hosting the SUNY Morrisville Mustangs, Nyquist set the Alfred record for most rushing attempts in a single game with 40. On those 40 touches, he rushed for a whopping 285 yards and four touchdowns. The Saxons defeated the Mustangs on Senior Day 34-21.
“The win was definitely a confidence boost and will help motivate the team to push each other for next year,” Nyquist said. “Although we lost a lot of guys (due to being seniors), we still have a ton of athletes returning, and we can be very good next year.”
For the first time in his career, Nyquist’s efforts earned him the Empire 8 co-Offensive Player of the Week honor.
Tommy’s rushing total was the second most in Saxon history.
“It means a lot to me just knowing that my coaches have that trust to put me in to be able to have a game like that,” he said. “My offensive line deserves most of the credit. I have the easy part of it — the o-line are the ones who create the openings that I get to run through. I definitely got winded a few times, but we are fortunate to have other guys on the team that can make great, explosive plays.”
Nyquist and the Saxons are onto the offseason as they prepare for their 2026 campaign.
