Warren girls tennis falls to McDowell

The Warren girls tennis team hosted the McDowell Trojans at Betts Park on Tuesday and fell 4-1.

“(It was) definitely one we wish went the other way, but McDowell just had a bit more depth in the lineup than us this year,” Dragons tennis head coach Thomas Pellegrino said. “We played a better match than we did weeks back with both doubles improving scores and making it competitive, but we couldn’t quite get it done.”

Following are the individual match results: first singles, Lucy Harrison (W) defeated MJ Moubarak 6-4 6-1; second singles, Courtney Leonard (M) defeated Alannah Garza 0-6 6-3 7-6; third singles, Kal Taylor (M) defeated Grace Carlson 6-0 6-1; first doubles, Sophia Johnson and Markella Nacopoulos (M) defeated Sarah Harvey and Scotlynn Perry 6-0 6-4; and second doubles, Asheen Udgiri and Peyton Irwin (M) defeated Olivia Romanosky and Brady Caudill 6-3 6-3

“I do want to give a big shout out to Lucy Harrison, though,” Pellegrino said. “She was Warren’s lone winner today and played one of her best matches this season. Even with a very noisy McDowell crowd, she fed off it and elevated her level of play. We set a game plan before today’s match and Lucy executed it perfectly, playing with confidence and utilizing her big serve and forehand to keep her opponent on the run.

“This was another great win for Lucy and moves her to 11-4 overall with one more match to go. Regardless of the outcome, this win gives her the best individual first-singles record for Warren in the last 20 years.”

This loss has now eliminated Warren from the D10 team final.

The Lady Dragons return to action today when they travel to Buhl Park to compete in the annual Tri-County tennis tournament.
