Warren downs Harbor Creek in volleyball
The Warren girls volleyball team opened Thursday evening behind the eight-ball as it dropped the first set 23-25, but settled in to win three straight 25-10, 25-20, 25-21 against the Harbor Creek Huskies.
Brynn Norris and Malysia Sorensen each had three aces, with Brooke Sherry adding two. Madelyn Nosel recorded 16 kills, Hailey Cabisca had 11 and Attie Corey notched nine. Sorensen led the digs category with 18, and Nosel and Norris had 13 apiece. Corey was a force at the net, tallying five blocks. Norris contributed three blocks and Lilly Newton, Sherry and Nosel had two each. Norris also recorded 39 assists.
“It was nice to see the hard work pay off in a tough place to play and secure the Region 5 championship, one of our goals this season,” Warren head coach Mike Dolan said. “After a rough first-set loss, we started to play with more confidence in the second and third. We had to dig down deep and make a comeback in the fourth set, but these girls have done that all season. (This was a) total team win with some standout plays made from Brooke Sherry, Attie Corey, Addison Ristau, Brynn Norris and Hailey Cabisca.”
In junior varsity play, Warren defeated the Huskies 14-24, 25-19, 15-12.
Following are the Dragons’ statistical leaders: Maddy Snell six digs; Laura Pearson five kills, six digs; Kendall Skerda four kills, three digs; Tia French six digs; Michaela Dolan 17 assists, 12 digs, four aces; Kelsey Johnson three aces, seven kills, six digs, threeaces; Adelaide Keeports three kills, four digs; Grace Schwab three kills, three digs; and Addison Brown two digs, one ace, one block.
The varsity squad is back in action on Saturday when it travels to Cochranton for the latter’s annual tournament. The junior varsity travels to McDowell on Saturday for a tournament.
IKE FALLS
COCHRANTON — The Eisenhower volleyball team traveled to Cochranton Thursday for a Region 2 game, and dropped the match in three sets 25-16, 26-15, 25-14.
The Knights were led by Layla Edwards, the senior with seven kills and an ace. Paisley Lawson added four kills, six receptions and 17 digs; Meredith Smyth had one kill, three receptions and 16 digs; and Lainey Font collected nine receptions and 19 digs.
