Nosel scores most kills in Warren volleyball history

It was a record-setting weekend as Warren Dragon senior Madelyn Nosel broke the WAHS all-time kills record, previously held by former Dragon standout and Division 1 volleyball player at Cleveland State, Lydia Latimer. Latimer’s record of 987 stood since the 2018 season. Nosel amassed 39 kills for the tournament, and is now over 1,000 kills — and counting — on her career.
Warren finished 3rd at the 12-team Maplewood varsity tournament on Saturday. They finished pool play with an 8-2 record with wins over Cambridge Springs (25-18, 25-14), Union City (25-14, 25-16), General McLane (25-23, 25-20) and split with Meadville (20-25, 25-16) and Maplewood (25,23, 14-25).
The 2nd place finish in their pool earned them a bye to the quarterfinals, where they defeated Cochranton 25-21. In the semifinals, they lost to Corry 19-25, ending their day. Tournament host Maplewood went on to win the tournament over Corry.
Also adding to the historic day, junior Malysia Sorensen attained the 1,000 plateau with over 1,000 serve receptions to her credit, placing her in 3rd place all-time for Warren.
Stats for the tournament are as follows: Madelyn Nosel 39 kills, 4 aces, 24 digs, Attie Corey 25 kills, 3 blocks, 7 aces, Lilly Newton 12 kills, 2 blocks, Brooke Sherry 15 kills, 5 aces, Julia Getner 10 kills, 3 blocks, Hailey Cabisca 7 kills, 2 aces, Peyton Wotorson 7 kills, 5 digs, Brynn Norris 66 assists, 3 kills, 2 blocks, Malysia Sorensen 55 digs, 7 aces, Peyton Cabisca 21 assists, 8 digs, Addison Ristau 12 digs, 2 aces, and Paiden Johnson 22 digs, 7 aces.

Warren’s regular season is over as they now head into the postseason.
They earned the No. 1 seed in the AAA District 10 playoffs and will face the winner of No. 4 Slippery Rock and No. 5 Meadville with a date and time to be determined.
