Harrison off to strong start at Boston University

2024 Warren High graduate and swimming standout Hugh Harrison had an impressive start to his freshman campaign at NCAA Division I Boston University.
Competing in four events in the Terriers’ season-opener, Harrison won the 50-yard freestyle (21.50), the 200-yard individual medley (1:56.51), came in second in the 200-yard backstroke, and anchored the 200-yard medley relay to a victory by just .01 seconds over College of the Holy Cross in an exciting finish. Harrison’s effort helped the Terriers to a 177-122 victory over the Crusaders.
He also earned a season-best in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 21:33 when they hosted Bucknell University over the weekend where Boston defeated the Bisons 172.5-127.5.
Hugh discussed his goals while at Boston University, “My personal goals are to drop big chunks of time in my best events this year, contribute to the really solid men’s team culture, and make the relay teams for conference championships. A big short-term goal of our men’s team is to beat Boston College on Friday, Oct. 31, as it has been 10 years since that happened, and we think we have a serious chance at changing that this year. A long-term goal for the season is to compete well at the Patriot League Championships in February and climb the team rankings.”
While at Warren, Harrison managed to break every single individual record (except the 500-yard freestyle) and also is a member of the 200-meter medley relay record.
Although Harrison graduated in 2024, he took a gap year at Mercersburg Academy to rehab his shoulder.
“Mercersburg Academy not only allowed me to regain strength after my shoulder surgery and compete at an elite level swim program, but it also prepared me for the tough challenge of balancing a hard class schedule along with 20 hour training weeks in college,” Harrison added.
Harrison returns to the pool when he and the Terriers host Boston College and Army West Point on Halloween for a heavily anticipated contest.
