Eisenhower volleyball rallies for victory in 5

HERMITAGE — Lori Pascuzzi described it as an “amazing effort on our part.”

It was hard to argue with the Eisenhower volleyball head coach.

The Knights lost the first two sets Wednesday, but rallied for a 15-25, 23-25, 25-19, 25-20, 20-18 victory over Hickory in a five-set thriller.

“It was an intense night of volleyball,” Pascuzzi said. “Completing a reverse sweep at an away match is quite a feat and our girls rose to the challenge and came home with the win.”

Hickory is known for a loud and boisterous fan base and Pascuzzi said her team used the atmosphere as motivation.

“I’m really proud of our effort, they never gave up,” she said. “Their students and pep band made for a challenging atmosphere, but we used it to our advantage.”

Eisenhower (9-4) was led by Paisley Lawson with 10 kills, five aces and 32 digs. Payton Matson added seven kills and two aces; Rachel Lucks added four aces; Lainey Font collected 32 digs and 47 receptions; and Alanna Byrd chipped in 20 digs and one block.

The Knights will be back in action tonight against Conneaut Area High School.

Starting at $3.50/week.
