Eisenhower girls beat Union City on Senior Day

RUSSELL — Tuesday was senior recognition at Eisenhower Middle/High School where the Knights recognized their two senior girls runners: Laney Belcher and Lainey Font.

The Knights were victorious in the girls bout, but the boys were bested by Union City.

In varsity girls action, the Knights finished 1-2-3 from Belcher, Izzy Grosch and Font. Callie Delp earned a fifth-place finish with teammate Bryn Lindell closely behind in sixth. Addy Britt rounded out the Knights in eighth place.

The varsity boys fell to a strong Union City squad, as the Bears took five of the top six spots. The top finisher for the Knights was Parker McBride at fourth, then Joseph Fanelli coming in at seventh place. Also competing for Eisenhower were Alex Lund (ninth), Mason Britt (10th), Carson Ferman (12th), Brice Ludwick (13th) and Jonathan Bogniak (19th).

“We had a rainy day for our senior recognition, but we got the races in before the heavy rain fell,” Eisenhower head coach Darlene Beach said. “Our two senior girls, Laney Belcher and Lainey Font have been doing a great job this year. We had quite a few kids run season-best times on our Eco-Lab course.”

The junior high girls squad took the first four spots with Josie Elms leading the charge. Kaylee Ferino, Hanna Lund and Naveen Mead finished second, third and fourth, respectively.

Cameron Lindell took top honors for the junior high boys with Benny Matson finishing second. Dylan Shaffer (fourth) and Zack Ayers (seventh) ran well for the Knights.

Eisenhower hosts the North East High School Grapepickers next Tuesday for a 4 p.m. contest.

Starting at $3.50/week.
