The Warren Dragons traveled to Cochranton on Saturday to participate in the Cardinals’ annual tournament. The Dragons took second place in the heavily competitive 12-team varsity tournament.
In pool play, the Dragons finished with a 7-3 record, beating Saegertown 25-19, 25-18, Union City 25-16, 25-14 and Iroquois 25-17, 25-15, and splitting with Fairview 25-19, 21-25. Warren dropped two sets to tournament host Cochranton in a close 23-25, 20-25 match.
Their 7-3 record was good enough to secure the Dragons the top seed from the pool heading to the playoffs.
In bracket play, after receiving a bye, the Dragons defeated Saegertown 25-17 in the quarterfinals and Corry 25-13 in the semifinals. Warren faced a tough Portville (N.Y.) team in the finals and was defeated 25-21 by the Panthers.
