ERIE — The Warren volleyball team proved why it is the No. 1 seed in the District 10 Class 3A bracket as it needed less than an hour to defeat Slippery Rock in straight sets 25-5, 25-17, 25-12 in the semifinals at the Hagerty Family Events Center.

Warren dominated the first and third sets, but struggled to find consistency in the second as it had a series of missed kills that let the Rockets back in the set. But the Dragons held firm for the convincing win.

“I feel like we managed the nerves pretty well as a team and came out strong,” Warren head coach Mike Dolan said. “We blocked well and played good defense; things we’ll have to continue to do in the next round. Attie Corey and Madelyn Nosel set the tone early with some big kills. It was good to play well and get the win without any real letdown.”

“This win was so exciting,” Corey said. “This is exactly where we want to be as we played well and communicated effectively as a team. Tonight our blocking and serving were on, our defense was great. For the finals we need to make sure we are talking more, and have to continue to get our serves in and let nothing get us down. We are ready.”

Following are the Dragons’ statistical leaders: Lilly Newton four kills, three digs; Paiden Johnson two aces, five digs; Lauren Fajbik seven digs; Nosel 12 kills, three aces, 10 digs; Brynn Norris 25 assists, three aces, two kills; Hailey Cabisca seven kills; Corey six kills, three aces, four digs, two blocks; and Malysia Sorensen 12 digs.
