ERIE — Warren is the District 10 Class 3A girls volleyball champion again.

In a textbook team effort event, the Dragons defeated rival Fort LeBoeuf in straight sets 25-19, 25-12, 25-16 to win the title Thursday at the Hagerty Family Events Center. Warren played consistent, steady and unwavering volleyball to notch its second district title in three years, and the third for head coach Mike Dolan (2018, 2023).

The first set was action-packed, featuring back-and-forth rallies, many kills, digs and some service errors on both ends. Warren found itself up early and was able to maintain that lead to secure the first set 25-19 despite a LeBoeuf mid-set surge.

Fort LeBoeuf gained the early lead in the second set 6-3. Warren gathered, and rallied off seven points in a row to take a 10-6 command. The Dragons would maintain the consistency and would not look back, winning the second set 25-12. Attie Corey was on fire in this set as she had many well-placed kills.

The third set was all Warren 25-16. Consistent serving, steady net play and good communication allowed the Dragons to string points together, leading to the victory. Corey, along with Madelyn Nosel and Lilly Newton contributed kill after kill in the final set.

“I feel like we did a nice job staying aggressive with our serves and attacks,” said an ecstatic Dolan following the win. “Brynn (Norris) set a great game, delivering nice balls to our hitters. Attie and Madelyn did a great job hitting. Brooke (Sherry) Addison Ristau, Malysia (Sorensen) and Paiden (Johnson) served really well, which was key. Lilly and Julia (Getner) got their hands on everything at the net, blocking really well. We need to keep playing with confidence going forward. This was a total team effort tonight as Lauren Fajbik had a great game serving and receiving well, and Hailey Cabisca added in some key kills.

Johnson, Ristau, Sherry, Sorensen and Corey each had an ace on the night. Corey led with 12 kills, followed by Nosel with 10 and Newton with six. Sorensen led the digs department with 14, with Brynn Norris adding 11 and Nosel contributing eight. Norris tallied 29 assists.

“The community support has been tremendous all year and they showed up tonight as well including the flannel panel and the pep bus,” added Dolan.

Sorensen, a junior, notched her 1000th career dig to add to the exciting evening.

With the win, the Dragons earned a bid into the PIAA Class 3A tournament. They will host Hampton, which is the No. 3 seed out of the WPIAL (District 7) at Warren Area High School on Tuesday.
