Wenzel impresses in Warren’s 3-0 victory

TITUSVILLE — The Warren girls soccer team took on Titusville on Saturday and returned home with a 3-0 nonregion victory.

Warren was leading 2-0 at halftime, then found the net in the second half once more.

Dragons goals were scored by Meea Irwin and two from Lani Wenzel. Assists were from Meea Irwin and Wenzel.

Warren got off to a hot start with Meea Irwin scoring off a Wenzel pass just a few minutes into the game, then Meea returned the favor by assisting Wenzel later in the half.

The final goal of the game came off a Joanna Bennett corner kick that was knocked around in the box where Wenzel was able to find it and put it past the keeper.

“The girls played very well today,” Warren head coach Mark Ordiway said. “In the first half, we really controlled the tempo, our passing was crisp, and we used our width which created lots of opportunities.”

Goalkeeper Bella Campbell was a force to be reckoned with while pitching the shutout against the Rockets.

“We played a game of possession, had great passes, and played the ball to the outside midfielders allowing us to score the first two goals,” Wenzel said. “We were aggressive and a few yellow cards were handed out. Despite that, we brought home a good win. Bella Campbell had a great game with some amazing saves that led us to the shutout. This season has been fun and we are improving every game.”

“Lani played her best game of the season by far,” Ordiway added of Wenzel. “She was very active and involved. The second half wasn’t as smooth as we battled through five yellow cards and an injury. It was nice to see the girls stay focused and come out with the win.”

The Dragons return to play today when they host the Oil City Oilers for a 6 p.m. varsity kickoff at War Memorial Field.

Starting at $3.50/week.
