Warren wins nail-biter over Mercyhurst

ERIE — The Warren girls tennis team continued its hot streak, earning its fourth win a row 3-2 at Mercyhurst Prep on Tuesday.

The Dragons swept all singles matches, but dropped both doubles contests.

“We were missing a key piece of our starting line up today with Brady Caudill being out sick so we needed to make some quick adjustments in our doubles lineup,” Warren head coach Thomas Pellegrino said. “Today’s pairings have not played much together this season, so it was a big ask for them but we were happy with the end result.”

Lucy Harrison won at first singles 6-0, 6-0, Alannah Garza won at second singles 6-0, 6-0 and Grace Carlson won at third singles 6-1, 6-1 for the Dragons.

At first doubles, Quinlan Cullen and Lucy Dunn beat Sarah Harvey and Olivia Romanosky 6-2, 6-4 while Amelia Martin and Amelia Redmedie beat Scotlynn Perry and Carly Fitzsimmons 4-6, 6-3, 11-9 at second doubles.

“Our singles girls really held it down for us in this one and got us three points on the board before the doubles even finished,” Pellegrino said. “Lucy, Alannah and Grace are all playing their best tennis right now and helped secure another key region win for us tonight by playing aggressive and keeping their opponents on the back foot. This was an impressive and dictating singles sweep and it came when we needed them most.”

Laelah Mueller, Lilly Seyler, Jade Stewert, and Laken Carroll were winners in JV play.

The Dragons improved to 9-4 on the season, and 4-4 in Region 2 play.

Next up, Warren travels to Fairview to take on the Tigers this Thursday.

Starting at $3.50/week.
