On Thursday, the Warren Area High School Girls Golf team traveled to Erie to compete at the Whispering Woods Girls Golf Invitational hosted by the McDowell Trojans.
The demanding Whispering Woods saw Kate Shippee lead the Lady Dragon squad with a 92, good enough for 14th place out of 45 girls. Juliana Polito shot a 140, and Maelee Mandeville fired a 144.
As a team, the Dragons finished in 10th place. The top team on the outing was McDowell who shot a 245.
“Whispering Woods is a very hilly and challenging course that our kids played for the first time today. You just can’t afford to have errant shots or the numbers really add up fast,” commented coach Scott Pearson.
“Kate had three birdies on her round, but a couple untimely hits on three holes cost her a top-5 finish,” Pearson added. “I was also very happy to be able to have most of our seniors play in our final regular season event. Now, we will concentrate on getting our kids ready for Districts and the Last Chance District Qualifier being held on Wednesday.”
