Warren Area High School’s Kate Shippee fired an 83 on Thursday to secure an automatic bid to the District 10 Golf Championships later in September. Her season scoring average of 79.75 was good enough for the fifth- best individual ranking in region play.
“I’m very happy for Kate and extremely proud of her for securing for the third straight year an automatic bid into the District 10 Championships,” Dragons golf coach Scott Pearson said. “She has worked very hard on her game this season and has even gone to various putting seminars to improve her skills. It has really paid off for her as she has trimmed her scoring average from 95.25 in 2024 to 79.75 this season.”
As a team, the Dragons finished in third place out of the five teams competing, shooting a (best 3 of 5) team score of 289. McDowell fired a 246, Fort Leboeuf a 256, Meadville a 328 and Erie High a 350.
Freshman Zella Hendricks had a personal best, shooting a 100.
“Zella has really started to play with more confidence the last few rounds as she started to adjust to playing competitive golf. She seemed to have a lot of energy going from hole to hole, and her shots are becoming more pure,” said Pearson.
Rounding out the scoring for Warren were JoJo Gray with a 106, Elissa Errett with a 111 and Alanna Warrior with a 116.
The Warren girls return to play Monday at the Meadville Invitational.
