Palmieri’s 77 leads Warren golf team

EDINBORO — The Warren boys golf team traveled to General McLane’s home course Culbertson Hills on Wednesday for a Region 6 mega match.

The Dragons had a best 4 of 5 team score of 344, good enough for fourth place out of five teams. Meadville had the low score of the day with 302, followed by McDowell at 321, McLane at 323 and Erie High with a 378.

Junior Michael Palmieri led the way for Warren with a 77, followed by Zane Carlson with an 84, Gavin Haibach with a 91, Ian Munksgard with a 92 and Hayden Hendricks with a 96. The day was highlighted by Palmieri’s eagle on No. 1 when he drove the short par 4 and sunk the 20-foot putt.

“Culbertson Hills is a fantastic layout and a fun course to play,” Dragons head coach Nate Sandberg said. “I think we are still struggling to find consistency and are having problems stringing together consecutive holes of good play. We will prepare the rest of the week when we travel to the Pennhills Club in Bradford.”

“My driver was really on today and the irons were on fire,” said Carlson, a senior. “The putter could have been better, but I did only have one three-putt. The par 3s were challenging and I had a couple of bad shots due to never playing the course before. But, overall, it was a good day.”

Warren has just one more Region 6 mega match on the season before it prepares for districts in late September.

Starting at $3.50/week.
