Knights win in overtime
Wallace nets winner for Eisenhower; Warren coasts at Franklin
ERIE — It took two overtime periods in a scoreless game that was dominated by the defense of both Eisenhower and Iroquois for the Knights to find the back of the net in a thrilling 1-0 Region 3 girls soccer win Tuesday
It was Eisenhower’s Olivia Wallace who connected on a back-post shot at the 7:52 mark of the second overtime to give her team the victory.
“The girls played hard the entire game,” Knights head coach Faith Johnson said. “We had chances but just weren’t able to connect. I thought Grace Martin and Sheayla Johnson played really well in the middle and created opportunities for us. Olivia had another strong game and her shot was beautiful from the back post.”
The Knights are back in action Thursday when Maplewood travels to Russell for another region contest.
DRAGONS COAST
FRANKLIN — Warren earned a 10-0 shutout of Franklin in Region 6 girls soccer on Tuesday.
“We scored early and often,” Dragons head coach Mark Ordiway said. “In the second half we were able to work everyone in for good minutes.”
Five of the Dragon goals were scored by Meea Irwin, with Kaylee Cyphert contributing two. Leyna Irwin, Ava Wymer and Maddy Sliter each scored once.
Leyna Irwin had three assists; Lilly Stanley and Meea Irwin each had two; and Wymer and Sliter each had one.
Goalkeeper Bella Campbell notched her fifth shutout of the season.
The Dragons are back on the road Thursday when they travel to Bradford to take on the Owls for a 5:30 p.m. varsity kickoff.
