Knights sweep Seneca in Russell

RUSSELL — On Tuesday, the Eisenhower Knights hosted Seneca and defeated the Bobcats in varsity boys and girls Region 4 action.

The Eisenhower girls narrowly won their meet by a score of 25-32, led by Laney Belchers’s 23:22 and Izzy Grosch’s 24:08. Lainey Font ran a nice time of 25:47 with teammate Callie Delp’s 26:12 good for seventh overall. Bryn Lindell (27:26), Haley Ferrie (28:01) and Addyson Britt (29:38) were key contributors in the victory.

The Knights boys completed the sweep by a score of 21-34. Parker McBride ran the fastest time for the Knights with a 20:24, good for second overall. Joseph Fanelli was 1 second behind his teammate with a 20:25, followed by Alex Lund’s 20:47 and Mason Britt’s 21:06. Brice Ludwick (22:07) and Jonathan Bogniak’s 25:56 rounded out the Knights.

“It was a nice region win for both the boys and girls varsity teams,” Eisenhower head coach Darlene Beech said. “The humidity played a role in some of the times, but the kids did a great job doing what they needed to do for the win on our home course. Our junior high athletes also ran strong today.”

The junior high girls continued their impressive season with Josie Elms’ 11:25 earning top honors. Kaylee Ferino ran a quick 12:12, with Hanna Lund having a 12:40 and Naveen Mead finishing with a 14:05.

Cameron Lindell won the boys junior high race with a time of 10:04 and Benny Matson finished third with a 10:31.

Zack Ayers’ 11:42 was good for fourth overall and Dylan Shaffer ran the fifth-fastest time at 11:45.

The Knights’ next race is this Saturday when they compete in the McQuaid Invitational at Genesee Park in Rochester, New York.

WARREN SPLITS WITH HUSKIES

HARBORCREEK — The Warren cross country teams took on the Harbor Creek Huskies on Tuesday with the girls winning 25-31 and the boys losing 41-20 in Region 4 action.

Morgan Alexander had the fastest time out of all the girls with a blazing 20:59.1, followed closely by teammate Riley Evan’s 21:07.2. Leona Hovan came in third place with a time of 21:34.1 and Ella Cull ran a time of 24:13.0, good for eighth overall. Loralei Johnson (26:13.7) came in 11th and Rose Rioux (27:15.9) rounded out the team in 12th place.

In varsity boys action, Warren’s Cole Fitzgerald took top honors with a time of 17:38.4, followed by a slew of Huskies taking second through seventh places. Eighth place saw Grayson Collopy’s 18:34.0, then Leyton Salvatore’s 18:49.1, good for ninth place. Newcomer Chase Fetzeck ran a 20.05.0 (14th place), Gavin Heeter had a 22:05.5 (18th place) and Levi Peterson came in 19th overall with a time of 22:43.9. The final Dragons finishers were Mason Smith’s 23:52.2 and Jack Monroe’s 25:28.7.

The junior high girls ran a tough race and defeated the Huskies with Nina Woldt and Elsie Woldt having a 1-2 finish with times of 13:50.5 and 14:22.3, respectively. Delaney Moore ran an 18:08.2, Ashlynn Zawacki finished with an 18:21.4 and Emilie Youngren a 21:39.2.

The junior high boys completed the middle school sweep led by Ashton Carrington’s 14:03.2, Ethan Gustafson’s 14:45.7 and Conner Schwabenbauer’s 14:57.7. Cole Enos was close behind with a 15:05.3. Caleb Fralek ran an impressive 16:08.8 with teammate Oliver Drescher right behind with a 16:11.0. Zane Getner was next with a 16:17.4, Trenton Wright ran a 16:27.0 and Jackson Warner had a 17:13.4. Chase Lindell ran a 17:18.3, Daniel Cull’s time was 17:18.5 and Liam Johnson ran an 18:19.6. The Dragons were rounded out by Landon Lutton’s 18:37.2 and Eli Lutton’s 19:25.9.

The Dragons’ next meet will be Tuesday when they host the Eisenhower Knights at Betts Park for a Warren County showdown. It will be a 4 p.m. start time.
