RUSSELL — Eisenhower brings a two-game winning streak into tonight’s region football game against visiting Northwestern, which is trying to get back into the win column after dropping its last two games.
The Knights are led by a pair of seniors on offense. Quarterback Caleb Jakubczak leads the team in rushing with 366 yards on 39 attempts, along with five touchdowns, and he’s thrown for 221 yards on 17 completions; and senior tailback Logan Penley seems to have found his footing after amassing 214 yards on 47 carries last week. He has scored six touchdowns.
Eisenhower head coach Jim Penley said it will be a big battle up front.
“They’re physically a very big team,” he said. “They play an aggressive, physical style of football. …They are a team that if given the opportunity to play their game they can wear a team down, while physically dominating the line of scrimmage. We have to be ready for that.”
Northwestern has given up big plays and the Knights will count on Jakubczak and Penley, along with junior Nolan Gesing, who has rushed for 136 yards on 14 carries and a pair of touchdowns, to spring loose for some long gains.
Northwestern is led by senior quarterback Braden Smith, who has thrown for 300 yards on 21 completions and had four touchdown passes. Northwestern’s leading rusher is Brody Bickenheuser (32 carries, 199 yards, two touchdowns.)
The Knights find themselves tied for first place. More importantly, they want to record another region win.
