Haibach shoots 80 at Beechwood

FAIRVIEW — The Warren boys golf team played in their final Region 6 mega match of the season Tuesday at Beechwood Golf Club, hosted by the Erie High Royals.

The Dragons shot a team score (best four of five) of 337 paced by Gavin Haibach’s 80. Xander Russell was close behind with an 82, followed by an 86 from Hayden Hendricks. Michael Palmieri rounded out the Dragons with an 89.

Since Tuesday was the final region match, that meant the top 10 individuals in the region qualified for the District 10 tournament next Monday. Haibach and Palmieri tied for the season with an average of 82.75, just off the qualifying mark of 82.25.

“It is amazing how close some of these kids can miss qualifying for districts,” Warren head coach Nate Sandberg said. “It really can come down to one to two missed putts, a wayward tee shot, or a couple mishits. Unfortunately, we were on the losing side of that battle with Gavin and Michael. The good news is that there is a good chunk of kids that will graduate in the district next year, so we are optimistic.”

Warren returns to play Thursday when it travels to Tam O’Shanter Golf Course in Hermitage to compete in an annual invitational.

Starting at $3.50/week.
