Eisenhower volleyball edges Iroquois to improve to 2-0

The Eisenhower volleyball team moved to 2-0 on the season with a thrilling 25-16, 25-18, 18-25, 25-27, 15-9 victory over Iroqouis Tuesday night.

“We tried several players in some different spots,” Knights head coach Lori Pascuzzi said. “We are blessed to have so many girls who can play several spots. They played very well, working through things as we find the right mix. It is a good problem to have. I’m really proud of the effort they gave tonight, working through some new things.”

After Eisenhower won the first two sets 25-16, 25-18, tvisitors came out determined in the third set and opened up a 7-4 lead before Paisley Lawson brought Eisenhower within a point at 8-7. That was as close as it would get, however, as the Braves opened up a 18-10 lead and would go on to post a seven-point third-set win.

In the fourth set, the Knights opened up a 21-12 advantage before the visitors battled back to within a point at 21-20. The score would go back and forth, with Eisenhower holding a game point serve at 24-23 before Iroqouis tied the score at 24-24 and eventually prevailed 27-25 to tie the match at 2-2

The fifth set saw the score tied at 4-4 before Eisenhower’s Lexi Pascuzzi’s turn to serve. Her well-placed serves allowed her team to open up a 12-4 lead. The Braves battled back to bring the score to within before the Knights’ Lawson’s spike that set up Lainey Font for the game-winning serve which gave the hosts a 15-9 fifth-set win and the 3-2 match victory.

Eisenhower was led by senior Rachel Lucks and junior Marli Rectenwald, who each had four aces. Senior Riley Robinault had a monster game at the net with seven kills, senior Layla Edwards added six and Lawson had four.
