WARREN — The Warren girls hosted DuBois on Saturday and were defeated by the Beavers 5-2 at War Memorial Field.

The Dragons had numerous scoring chances throughout the game, but the DuBois defense held firm and only allowed the Dragons to score twice.

“The girls played a great game today,” Warren head coach Mark Ordiway said. “DuBois is a very talented team. We had a couple near goals, with a ball off the crossbar that went straight down and bounced on the goal line.”

Dragons senior Meea Irwin had both goals, with Joanna Bennett contributing one assist.

Irwin’s first goal came from a penalty kick in the first half after getting tripped from behind in the box. Her second goal found the net from a long pass from Bennett where Irwin was able to pick it up at full speed and beat a defender into the box.

“Bella Campbell made several point-blank saves in goal to keep us close,” Ordiway said. “It was a good game by both teams. We were already down starting center back Grace Wilkins due to injury and by halftime, right back Traci Abplanalp went out due to injury. Freshman defender Peyton Vincent got some great experience and did a nice job in the second half. Lilly Stanley had her head on a swivel today and made a multitude of great tackles.”

The Dragons will try to bounce back Tuesday when they travel to Franklin to take on the Knights for a 6 p.m. kickoff.

Starting at $3.50/week.
