Dragons’ Weldon, Snyder shoot 87s

CORRY — The Warren boys golf team traveled to the Corry Invitational on Thursday at Corry Country Club.

Twenty-two teams participated in the highly popular event this year that saw a mixture of many weather conditions. At times the sun was out, then heavy winds and rain would arrive shortly after. The Dragons battled through the elements on a tough scoring day.

Warren Blue finished with a team score of 367 (best four of five scores). Presley Weldon and Eli Snyder paced the squad, each firing matching 87s. Charlie Blum was right behind with a 92, Nate Leamon with a 101 and Xander Russell rounded out the team with a 102.

“A lot went well today with my driver and the short game was great despite it being cold and rainy,” Snyder said. “I need to work on my driver a little because I am dealing with the hooks, but thankfully my short game was able to save me. It’s hard to really go off of what happened today because of the weather to be able to determine what we need to work on at practice.”

Warren White (team score of 429) held their own throughout the day, with this being some of the golfer’s first time competing in a match. Isaac Neal was the low scorer with a 98, followed by Aaron Shene at 101. Sebastin Lawson shot a 106, Jude Gatto carded a 124 and Jacob Zaffino ended with a 141.

“I thought the kids played pretty well under the conditions,” Warren assistant coach Steve Onuffer said. “Playing in the rain and cold is really difficult and sometimes the scores don’t tell the whole story. One thing that the kids need to work on is not letting one bad hole affect the entire round. Everyone will have a bad hole but you need to forget about it and focus on the next shot.”

Warren tees it up next Monday when it hosts Region 6 for a mega match at Cable Hollow Golf Course.

Starting at $3.50/week.
