WARREN — A first-half goal was not enough for Warren in a 4-1 loss to Harbor Creek in girls soccer Wednesday at War Memorial Field.

The Dragons’ Meea Irwin scored in the first half from her sister, Leyna.

Harbor Creek’s defense held tough and created many opportunities for its offense that allowed them to score four goals in the game. The Huskies were leading 2-1 at halftime, and scored two more second-half goals.

“We scored first and had great possession early in the game,” Warren head coach Mark Ordiway said. “We had the ball in the scoring third repeatedly, but could not find the next pass, and a solid shot. We gave up the first goal due to a funny bounce and being out of position. They scored their second goal off a loose ball after a corner kick. Both goals were a little bad luck for us.”

Warren did earn numerous corner kicks during the second half, but could not convert on any of the opportunities. Goalkeeper Bella Campbell had a solid performance with many nice saves.

“We came in with a lot of adrenaline trying to avenge the loss from last year’s District 10 loss,” Meea Irwin said. “We have a lot of young players that are trying to find their role, and we need to work on possession. If we maintain control of the ball, we will have the confidence to create better plays and combinations.”

“We looked a lot more fluid overall,” Ordiway added. “We used the width of the field much better. I will give a lot of credit to Harbor Creek; they had great player movement, ball movement and passing accuracy.”

Warren is back in action when it travels to Girard on Saturday for an 11 a.m. kickoff.

Starting at $3.50/week.
