SMETHPORT — The Warren boys golf team traveled to Smethport Country Club on Friday to participate in the annual Smethport Boys Invitational.

The event consists of three-man teams, and it was Warren’s first ever time competing in the event. Representing the Dragons were Gavin Haibach, Zane Carlson and Hayden Hendricks.

Carlson’s experience of playing Smethport CC was a helpful advantage as he paced the squad with a 78, good for a fourth overall finish out of 47 total golfers. Hendricks fired an 87 and Haibach a 93.

The team score of 258 earned the Dragons a fifth-place finish from the 12 teams in the mix. There were 11 individuals in the event as well.

“The course was playing a little firm as drives were rolling out 30-40 yards than what we are used to,” Hendricks said. “My putting could have been a lot better because the greens were deceiving and hard to read.”

Warren returns to play today for its final Region 6 mega match of the season when it travels to Beechwood Golf Course in Erie.
