ERIE — It was a busy start to the PIAA fall sports season for Warren’s girls golf team with a four-person invitational at State College on Thursday and the first Region 3 mega match on Friday in Erie.
There are four returning players from last year’s team, along with five new players, this season. The returning players all have starting experience with junior Kate Shippee and seniors Elissa Errett, JoJo Gray and Maelee Mandeville. The new players to the team are seniors Alanna Warrior and Kayle Bell, junior Alyssa Reichle and freshmen Juliana Polito and Zella Hendricks.
The Lady Dragons first competed on Thursday, traveling to the prestigious Happy Valley Invitational playing the Championship Blue Course with Errett shooting an 18-hole 95, Shippee 97, Warrior 132 and Reichle 157. Both Warrior and Reichle were playing their first ever competition match and, as a team, the Dragons came in 11th place.
On Friday, the Dragons finished third in the season-opening Region 3 match at JC Martin. McDowell came in first with a score of 226, Ft. Lebouef had 232, Warren 261, Meadville 296, and Erie High 358. Shippee led the Dragons with her career-best competition round of 77, finishing in fourth place overall out of 24 players.
“Many of her drives put her in great position today for eagle opportunities on some of the par 4s,” said Coach Scott Pearson.

Also rounding out the scoring with back-to-back solid rounds were Errett with 89, Gray 95, Hendricks 101, and Warrior 103.
On Tuesday, the Dragons will host the Lady Dragon Golf Invitational beginning at 9 a.m. at Cable Hollow Golf Course.
“We are really excited to showcase girls golf as there will be many out-of-region high schools competing for a top-three finish with 10 individual medalists,” said Pearson.
