Twins Meea and Leyna Irwin began their senior season with the Warren girls soccer team rolling on all cylinders this Saturday, leading the Lady Dragons past Mercyhurst Prep 3-0 in non-region action at War Memorial Field.
The Lady Dragons took the lead in the first half when Meea finished off a pass from Leyna, then in the second half Leyna fired home a long-range strike from outside the box assisted by Traci Abplanalp and Meea secured the final tally on a 30-yard free kick just over the outstretched hands of the Mercyhurst Prep goalkeeper.
“Meea and Leyna did very well at getting us scoring chances,” Mark Ordiway stated. “They are both very dynamic players and two of the top players in the area.”
Not only was the offense clicking, but the Lady Dragons managed to keep the Lakers off the scoreboard in the season opener.
“Lilly Stanley and Kaylee Cyphert played great games in the middle of the field in protecting our defense and connecting Leyna and our offense,” Ordiway added.

The Lady Dragons begin District 10 Region 6 action Tuesday when they entertain McDowell.
“At practice, and this first game we really focused on our positioning on the field and supporting the ball and each other,” Ordiway stated. “We did that today. We had very good spacing and possession of the ball.”
