Shippee shoots 78 in Mega match

RUSSELL — The Warren Area High School girls golf team hosted its Region 3 Mega match Wednesday at Cable Hollow Golf Course and finished in third place.

The McDowell Trojans earned the top spot with a combined (best 3-of-5) score of 231, followed by Fort LeBoeuf with a 249, Warren with a 266, Meadville with a 318 and Erie High with a 337.

“With only one home region match, it is kind of hard to believe that our five seniors just played their last home match of their high school career,” Warren coach Scott Pearson said. “With such a short region schedule, we now only have two away mega matches left.”

Kate Shippee continued her solid play and led the Dragons with a fine 7-over par 78, including three birdies, which was good for the fourth best individual score of the day. Elissa Errett finished with a 90, Zella Hendricks with a 98, JoJo Gray with a 101, and, making her first varsity start, Alyssa Reichle with a 132. The low round of the day was Fort LeBouf’s Cassidy Conn with a 73, followed by McDowell’s Genelia King with a 74 and Ella Bickel with a 77.

“I felt really comfortable being able to play on our home course today,” Shippee said. “Overall, I felt pretty good about my performance, but (there are) still some areas for improvement.” Shippee’s day was highlighted by holing out from 65 yards for birdie on the seventh hole.

The Warren junior varsity squad went against McDowell in a nine-hole match. The Trojans downed Warren 159-183. Alanna Warrior lef the Lady Dragons with a 57. Kayle Bell had a 58, Juliana Polito a 68 and Maelee Mandeville finished with a 70.

The Warren girls will be back in action next Wednesday at the General McClane Invitational
