Meea Irwin buries 6 goals for Dragons
ERIE — Warren traveled to Erie High on Thursday and earned a 10-1 nonregion victory over the Royals.
“We were able to slow down a little bit and focus on possession,” senior Lilly Stanley said. “We had some really nice passing sequences where we were able to hold through the back and build up the field with. We had a lot of good passes through Erie’s back line which gave us a lot of opportunities for runs to score.”
Meea Irwin led the scoring by burying six goals, followed by Kaylee Cyphert with two, and Ava Wymer and Joanna Bennett with one apiece. It was the first career varsity goal for both Wymer and Bennett.
Leyna Irwin amassed three assists, Cyphert and Lani Wenzel each had two, and Violet Brooker and Meea Irwin each had one.
“Meea was on fire tonight. She had two first half goals and our first four goals of the second half in about 20 minutes of play,” Warren head coach Mark Ordiway said. “I have to give a lot of credit to Kaylee and Lilly (Stanley) again. They controlled everything in the midfield. We had great movement and passing tonight from the entire team. This game will give the girls confidence going forward.”
The Dragons are back in action Wednesday when they host the Harborcreek Huskies at War Memorial Field at 6 p.m.
