RUSSELL — Warren’s girls golf team finished third at its seven-team Warren Dragon Girls Golf Invitational on Tuesday at Cable Hollow Golf Course.
Overall, 33 girls battled the heat and tough competition, including Fairview senior Cora Hirz’s blistering 18-hole, 9-under-par 62.
The defending PIAA 2A state champions, Fairview won the invitational with a team score of 219 (four golfers per team with the top three scores counting).
Fort LeBoeuf finished second at 245 followed by Warren “White” at 273, and ahead of Union City’s 280, General McLane’s 313, Harbor Creek’s 315, Seneca’s 322 and Warren “Blue” at 385.
“This is the first time that I know of that a Warren girls golf team has ever placed in an invitational and brought home medals,” said Warren coach Scott Pearson. “I’m really happy for the kids and that they are seeing some success and very happy that every kid on the team got to compete today. Three of our players also finished top 10 individually as well, again earning medals for their efforts.”

For Warren, Elissa Errett led the way with an eighth-place finish at 89, Kate Shippee was ninth with a 90, and JoJo Gray 10th with a 94. Other scores from Warren were Zella Hendricks’ 106, Alanna Warrior’s 119, Kayle Bell’s 122, Maelee Mandeville and Alyssa Reichle, 144 apiece, and Juliana Polito’s 147.
“Not to be lost on the day was an unbelievable round by Cora Hirz of Fairview, firing a blistering 9-under-par 62,” said Pearson. “What an amazing round and that has to be the course record fired by a lady at Cable Hollow Golf Course — it was really neat to see that happen at our inaugural Warren Dragon Girls Golf Invitational.
“I am really appreciative of the overwhelming support from Cable Hollow, sponsors, and the support they gave for this invitational, as well as the turnout for this event from neighboring high schools, spectators, and the interest it generated for girls golf,” added Pearson.
