Both the Eisenhower boys and girls soccer teams suffered losses Wednesday in a rare doubleheader at Mike Decker Field.

The boys fell to Titusville 4-1 and the Lady Knights dropped a 6-1 decision to General McLane.

In the opener, the boys trailed 3-0 before senior Bryceton Wilkins scored to make it 3-1 at the half. The Knights settled down and played solid defense in the second half, only allowing a single goal.

“It was our first game against a different team,” Eisenhower coach Mike Taylor said. “We didn’t get a scrimmage in before school started, so this was our game action of any type for a lot of our players.”

The Knights have a large squad this season, but were hit hard by graduation.

“We had a lot of positives in the game,” Taylor said. “We started a freshman in goal, Gavin Haight, who I thought played well. He was strong in the net and assertive. We also had five new starters, including three who had never played until three weeks ago.”

For the Eisenhower girls, they allowed a goal in the first minute before they settled down.

With many new starters, head coach Faith Johnson was happy with what she saw.

“We really began to communicate in this game compared to our opener last Saturday,” she said. “The girls finally showed their ability to work as a team, something they have struggled with up until this point.”

The visitors built a 6-0 lead before Eisenhower’s Jordan Jacob prevented the shutout with 11 minutes remaining in the game.

“I’m really proud of the defensive game that Abby Jukes, Lilly Jesperson, Sophia Wallace and Maiah Konen-Smith played,” Johnson said. “They hustled the entire game and never gave up. I’m hoping we hit a turning point today. I’m excited about this team.”

The Lady Knights are back in action today when they entertain Northwestern at 3:30 game.

Starting at $3.50/week.
