Recent Warren Area High School softball standout Alana Stuart, who will begin her college career this fall for Division I Mercyhurst University, has been invited to participate in the inaugural District 10 North vs. South Softball All-Star Game at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Penn State Behrend.

Stuart is among 15 all-stars playing for D10 North against 15 from D10 South, according to the Erie Times-News. She’s also one of five committed to play D-I softball among a total of 15 signed to play in college at any level beginning this fall.

The Division I recruits, according to the Times-News, include Sharpsville’s trio of Lily Palko (Michigan), Izzie Candiotti (Robert Morris) and Keeley Whitaker (Bryant), and Stuart and her soon-to-be teammate Gabby DeLuca (McDowell).

“It honestly means the world to me to be playing in this game,” said Stuart, “especially because of not playing as much as I hoped due to injuries and my surgery during my senior season. It means people still saw my talent and thought I deserved to play in this game amongst other very talented players.”

In addition to six D-I signees, there are also at least four committed D-II and six D-III players in the game.

Stuart, who was voted a region all-star in three of four seasons — three times as a pitcher and once as a third baseman, said she “will be pitching in the game and hitting.

“I’m healing up well,” she added. “I got to play this summer and, so far, there’s been no complications.”

Despite missing seven games this spring due to injury, Stuart was voted to the Region 6 second team at pitcher. Prior to Warren losing nine of its last 10 games, the Lady Dragons were 7-2 before her injury. She returned to pitch in parts of the last two games of the regular season.

Stuart finished 6-2 in the pitching circle with a 2.13 Earned Run Average. She struck out 107 batters and walked just 13 in 52-2/3 innings. She struck out a season-high 18 batters in a 5-0 shutout win over General McLane on April 16, and struck out at least 12 batters in a game five times.

Offensively, Stuart was 20-for-41 (.488) with four home runs and 21 RBIs. She had 10 total extra base hits. On April 22, Stuart was 4-for-4 with a double, two home runs, and seven RBIs against Titusville.

Proceeds from the game will benefit the Shriners Children’s Hospital in Erie.

Starting at $3.50/week.
