Oldtimers baseball
The Jamestown & Area Oldtimers Baseball Club swept a doubleheader at Salem AmVets on Sunday in Poland, Ohio.
In Game 2, Jamestown trailed 15-2 before scoring 16 unanswered runs for an 18-15 win in the 50+ Baseball League National Division.
Ed Baldensperger pitched 11 innings over two games, including the final four innings of Jamestown’s comeback for his second win of the day. He retired the last six batters he faced in the sixth and seventh innings of Game 2.
Offensively, Ron Thomas and Miguel Evangelista had three hits apiece and four teammates added two hits each. Jon Sitler scored three runs and Chris Yost, Brian Ferry, Ted Wyberanec, Larry Persing, and Baldensperger scored twice each.
Defensively, Yost made two barehanded plays from second base in the seventh.
Baldensperger was the complete-game winner in Game 1, striking out three in Jamestown’s 17-5 win.
Offensively, Yost was 5-for-5 with two doubles and a triple in the first win, and Evangelista 3-for-3 with a double.
Thomas, Yost, Evangelista, and Sitler reached base seven times apiece over two games for Jamestown (5-3).
