Barnett and Bolla pitch Tarp Skunks past Auburn

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — The Jamestown Tarp Skunks scored single runs in the first, fifth and eighth innings to beat the Auburn Doubledays 3-1 in Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League action Monday at Diethrick Park.

Ben Slanker went 2 for 3 with an RBI while Justin Bremner and Eric Weeks each added an RBI for the Tarp Skunks, who improved to 18-11 overall, good for third place in the West Division. The fourth-place Doubledays, who saw Tyler ViVacqua go 2 for 4 with a double and a third-inning solo home run, fell to 16-10.

Easton Barnett tossed the first four innings of two-hit ball with six strikeouts for Jamestown. Colin Bolla earned the win with five innings of one-hit relief, striking out eight.

Hunter Lefkus took the loss for Auburn despite allowing just four hits and two runs in seven innings of work. He struck out three and walked four.

Brady McGuire led off the bottom of the first inning with a walk, went to third on a single by Slanker, and scored on an RBI fielder’s choice from Bremner.

After ViVacqua tied the game in the top of the third, the Tarp Skunks took the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth. Dom Costello drew a one-out walk and Week followed with an RBI double.

Jamestown capped the scoring in the eighth on a sacrifice fly from Slanker that scored Blake Herman, who hit a one-out double.

The Tarp Skunks play at Newark on Thursday night and return home Friday to take on the Niagara Ironbacks.
