OAKS — Youngsville seventh-grader Johnathan Sullivan and his national team teammates were seeing double at the USA Wrestling 14U National Duals as Pennsylvania won both the Greco Roman and Freestyle National Championships for the third consecutive year.

Team Pennsylvania brought two squads to the event this year: Pennsylvania Red, their B team, and Pennsylvania Blue, their A team. Sullivan won his wrestle-off at the conclusion of the team camp to earn a spot on Pennsylvania Blue.

Throughout the first day of Greco Roman competition Wednesday, Pennsylvania Blue dominated their opponents despite their No. 6 seed. They beat Michigan Red 68-3, Ohio 46-26 and Oklahoma Red 50-22 to reach the Gold/Silver pool, which would determine first through eighth place.

Thursday morning, Pennsylvania Blue beat Maryland 48-20, Iowa 43-34 and Wisconsin 43-33 to reach the finals of the competition.

Opposite them would be Michigan Blue. Pennsylvania Blue quickly asserted themselves in the dual as they won six of the first nine contested weight classes to cruise to a 45-31 victory.

Pennsylvania Blue opened pool competition with a resounding 57-17 win over New York Blue.

They then took out Missouri Red 50-20 and Oklahoma Red 56-16 to win their pool and move into the Gold/Silver Pool.

In the opening round of the Gold/Silver pool on Friday night, Pennsylvania Blue dominated California 56-18.

Saturday morning, Pennsylvania Blue once again woke up and chose violence as they started their day with a 57-18 drubbing of Colorado and then recorded a 48-29 victory over Michigan Blue to reach the national finals.

In the finals, Pennsylvania Blue raced out to an early 46-4 lead before posting a 59-12 win over Ohio Gray to claim the 14U Freestyle national championship.

Sullivan battled tough throughout the event as he faced state place winners from across the country while competing at 175 pounds and 225 pounds.

Sullivan’s individual highlights from the event included, but weren’t limited to, a 46-second 10-0 technical fall over New York Freestyle and Greco Roman state finalist Tanner Gibeau and a 12-2 technical fall over California Greco Roman state champion Kohen Yorgensen.
