Rick Johnson of Johnson’s Black Belt Academy in Warren recently competed at the Erie Open at the Zem Zem Shriners Club.

More than 500 competitors from the tri-state area were in attendance. Master Johnson received a third place in both Weapons Forms (Kata) and Empty Hand Forms (Kata).

Golf leagues

RUSSELL — Andy Sveda and Greg Grimm both fired a 41 gross and Randy Jones shot a 26 net to highlight action in the Cable Hollow Senior Men’s League.

Jones also recorded the most points (10); Mark Bauer collected the most pars (five) and Gary Bjorkquist is the individual points leader (47.5).

Following are the Eastern Division standings:

Eagles Club leads the Tuesday Night League at Jackson Valley Golf Course through June 10.

Larry Salapek and Ron Irwin were the individual high-point winners (8.5 apiece), followed by Rob Ritchie, Randy Thomas, Ron Scalise, Mike Lewis and Skete Williams (8.0).
