Youngsville one-hit in home setback to Mercyhurst Prep
YOUNGSVILLE — David Manning broke up Mercyhurst Prep’s no-hitter with a one-out single during the first inning of a 31-1 Eagles loss against the Lakers on Tuesday at Davis Street Field in Youngsville.
The hit was the first allowed by Mercyhurst Prep in its six region games this season as the private-school Lakers continue to beat up on their public school competition within Region 4.
Youngsville did manage to push a run across the plate in the bottom of the second inning. Braydon Baker walked to lead off the inning and moved to third on an error with Dylan DePasquale at the plate. Walks then followed from Carsyn Branstrom and James Johnson with the last of those scoring Baker and breaking up the shutout.
Youngsville (6-5) returns to action on Wednesday when it continues its run of four home games in four days with a Region 4 showdown against Union City.
MEADVILLE KEEPS WARREN WINLESS
MEADVILLE — Meadville scored in every inning of a 15-5 five-inning Region 6 win over Warren on Tuesday.
The Bulldogs (5-8 overall and 4-6 in the region) jumped ahead 11-0 before Warren’s five-run top of the fourth inning.
“One bad inning that started us behind the ball in the second,” said Warren coach John White of Meadville’s seven-run second inning. “If you take that inning away, we’re right in the hunt and momentum swinging our way. It’s tough, but it’s something that comes with getting to practice and growing together.”
For Warren (0-13 and 0-9 in Region 6), freshman Broc Bryan was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, and Felix Valencia and Tage Wyman added two hits apiece. The first seven hitters in the order reached base.
Junior leadoff hitter Jacoby Thompson was 4-for-4 with a double, scored three runs, and collected three RBIs for Meadville, which finished with 11 hits, 10 walks and three hit batters.
