YOUNGSVILLE — Union City completed the softball season sweep of Youngsville with an 11-1 victory over the Eagles Thursday at Youngsville High School.

Thursday’s game was moved up to a 2:30 p.m. start time in an effort to beat out thunderstorms in the area — a plan that was, for the most part, successful. The game was delayed for 30 minutes in the top of the fourth for a passing storm, but was completed before the next round of storms entered the area.

Union City broke the game open in the top of the second inning, belting out six hits and scoring six runs to jump on top early.

Youngsville battled back for a run of its own in the bottom of the second when Ireland Abraham led off with a single and eventually scored on a two-out hit from Kamden Swearingen. Unfortunately for the Eagles, that would be their only run of the afternoon and Union City pushed its lead to 10 to end the game in five innings.

Abraham was 2-for-2 at the plate with Swearingen and Alyssa Goss adding Youngsville’s other base hits.

Youngsville is currently scheduled to hit the road on Monday when it travels to Lakeview. There is a chance that game could be scrapped in order to play a makeup region game at home with Seneca.
