Warren baseball edged by first-place GM

WATERFORD — After a 16-1 loss to General McLane earlier this season, Warren freshman pitcher Broc Bryan spun a complete-game gem on Friday in a 2-0 loss at the first-place Lancers.

Bryan threw six innings, allowing five hits and two runs, striking out three.

“I challenged Broc today to go out and show them what to expect for the next four years, and he took it in stride,” said Warren coach John White. “He went out and absolutely shoved. We did a great job battling through our errors and keeping them to a minimum. On top of that, we hit well and got on base as we usually do. We just can’t seem to string together hits at the right times.”

Warren falls to 0-15 overall and 0-11 in Region 6, but has lost just 2-1 and 2-0 in consecutive region games. General McLane remains in first place in the region at 10-1. The Lancers are 12-2 overall with their seventh win in a row.

“That’s a great team that we battled with through the whole game,” said Coach White. “They’re probably going to get at least a share of the region title at the end of the year. We didn’t back down. We played with nothing to lose and we were right down to the wire again. I’m incredibly proud of them for how they battled today and they’re itching to continue it in practice tomorrow and into next week.”

Carter Cochran had two of Warren’s six hits in the loss and teammates Eli Snyder and Felix Valencia had hits and reached base twice each.

Jackson Kiser was 2-for-3 with a double and RBI out of the leadoff spot for GM and Charlie Salvo out-dueled Bryan with six shutout innings pitched, allowing four hits and three walks and striking out nine.
